Police in the south tonight are hunting a man, they believe, as serial killer!
The FBI is offering a 50.000-dollar reward for information leading to his
arrest and warns that he is armed and dangerous! He got on to everyone’s
radar after he and a great many other people were forced to take a DNA test in
Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Here is ABC’s Mike Von Fremd!
Tonight police say Derrick Todd Lee is on the run and has disguised his
appearance. He is believed to have traveled as far north to Chicago, then
south to Georgia. Police believe he had been hiding in this Atlanta motel.
“Mr. Lee is very dangerous and we believe he’s here in Atlanta and that we
need to get him arrested”
Yesterday police used a battering ram to break into Lee’s Baton Rouge area
home but he was long gone! Last summer police determined that 5 Baton Rouge
women were victims of a serial murderer. In August, officials launched an
unprecedented DNA dragnet collecting samples from over 1000 men, some
including Lee by court order!
Lee’s DNA results came back yesterday! And police say it links him to the
murders of at least 5 women including 22-year-old Charlotte Marie Pace. “I
think it’s tragic that there was not a DNA data base in place that could’ve
caught him perhaps years ago”
There are more than 2-dozen other unsolved murders of women in Baton Rouge
going back 10 years and officials are now looking to see if Lee may be linked
to any of them! Lee has already spent 2 years in prison for burglary and has a
long criminal record that includes stalking woman and being a Peeping Tom.
Today police broadcast an appeal from Lee’s mother. So far there are no signs
he has gotten a message. Mike Von Fremd ABC news Baton Rouge.
