Rage welling up from the fount within
That’s the 6th commandment broken, the Sermon on the Mount, my sin
I'm guilty as the lawbreaker of God's commands,
All it takes is one broken, which means all are broken, the laws demands
So I'm guilty as charged before the judge
I got nothing to show for, can't hide behind those fig leaves, can't budge
Got nowhere to run, and nowhere to hide
The rug pulled out beneath me, falling down to the ground, even my pride
I thought I had a leg to stand on because I live by and recite all the creeds
But righteous judge judges based on word, thought, and deed
Listing all my sins and putting me through the ringer
I'm guilty as charged, don't have a leg to stand on, I'm the chief of sinners
Squirming and looking for a way to wriggle out
I'm a liar, a cheater, a thief, and a father-hater at heart
Trying to justify myself, and come up with all the reasons
Trapped in a corner, with no way out, it's open season
Cross, he paid for my sins
Love of the cross, he’s my savior
Love of the cross, Cross
Love of the cross, he gave me righteousness
Oh Cross.
Now I can't look the judge in the eye,
My whole past laid out before me, he took me for a ride
Sheepishly looking to the floor, and tears pouring out
Knowing I deserve judgment, knowing that there's no way out
Piercing dark eyes, the judge is staring into my soul
Trembling and waiting for the sentence to be meted out, unfold
The judge takes off his robe, and comes down from His seat
I'm going to stand in your place and take your punishment, you're free
rolling down, Can't believe I'm free now
Mercy and forgiveness, and now I can breathe now
A new lease on life, free from judgment, it's quite the fit
Christ paid for my sins on the cross, and gave me His righteousness
Cross, he paid for my sins
Love of the cross, he’s my savior
Love of the cross, Cross
Love of the cross, he gave me righteousness
Oh Cross.
