Oh Child, I hope you know
You'll never have to take on this life alone
Oh Child, I'll help you grow
Into a burning flame, in this world so cold
Forgiveness was the first step, and it wasn't easy
I realized that all your intentions were good, but you couldn't get through to me
I was able to forgive when I saw that you had it harder than me
You grew up in the generation of the Korean War, a country trying to rebuild from poverty
You came to America with $200 in your pocket, trying to make ends meet
But all the signs around you, pointed you in a direction telling you to retreat't speak English that's already 2 strikes against you
People taking advantage of you, thinking you had no clue
Working 3-4 jobs, working in a factory
Long days, lead to long nights, bills piling up, nosebleedsbut you came with vision and faith
Trying to make a life for your family, but you had to scrape
Blood, sweat, and tears to put a meal on the table
Back breaking work, to feed and clothe us, and give us a head start, making us able
Sacrifice and courage on your part, burning the midnight oil
Because the problems were stacked up, seething, brought to a boil
Oh Child, I hope you know
You'll never have to take on this life alone
Oh Child, I'll help you grow
Into a burning flame, in this world so cold
Courage under fire, demons dogging your every step
But I never saw you circling your wagons, hedging your bets
You went all in, when all the odds were against you
The fear, the doubt, the haters, wanting you to fail, trying to chain you
Steeped in the culture, like the air we breathe
It was a prison, that you couldn't touch, taste, or see
Treating you like half the man, you really were
You were a leader among leaders, not getting the respect you deserve
But you have a radiance and freedom shining from your face
Thier faces contorted, speaking words to cut, and put you in your place
They gnashing their teeth, spitting venom, full of hate
But you were levels above them, walking out your faith
That all proves that you are a real man of God forged through fiery trials
Passing on an inheritance worth more than gold, going the extra mile
Thank you dad for the godly life you lived
Baptized in the fires of battle you brought me in
Showed me what a real man's supposed to be
I want to pass on a godly legacy, like you did for me
Oh Child, I hope you know
You'll never have to take on this life alone
Oh Child, I'll help you grow
Into a burning flame, in this world so cold
