Do you know the price of freedom?
Do you know the price of freedom?
Do you know what we paid to obtain the freedom you take for granted?
Do you know the price of freedom?
Do you know the price of freedom?
Do you know what we paid to stand here for the freedom you were born with?
I crossed the freezing Tumen River with my sister
She fell into the water among broken ice
Gunshots rang in the dark night sky and my sister died there
To me, the price of freedom is my sister's life
My husband starved to death in North Korea. I fled with my two sons, but my youngest died of starvation before we crossed the border. My other son died from illness during the escape to South Korea.
I arrived in South Korea alone, having lost everything to gain freedom.
My parents sent me to South Korea, telling me to live freely even if they couldn’t. To protect me from being tracked, they declared me dead. In North Korea, I no longer exist.
Because I escaped from North Korea, my entire family was taken to a labor camp. To this day, I still don’t know if they are alive or not.
I defected with my mother
We crossed into China
The broker tried to exploit me,
but my mother stood up to him
And In front of my eyes, my mother was raped.
To me, the price of freedom is my mother's dignity
